SEPARATE FICTION FROM FACTS ABOUT THE NONI JUICE: A VERITABLE CHALLENGE!

At a time when the international reputation of the NONI juice has achieved a huge popularity, so is the confusion around this remarkable natural ingredient – today a top seller of the international food and dietary supplement industry.

To separate the pure facts from the marketing fiction and “hype” is a veritable challenge. One fact is however certain: ALL the noni juices are not the same, neither in quality nor in ingredient content, and that is the crucial difference and the actual subject of controversy.

Knowing that all the effectiveness of this naturally bitter medicinal remedy rests directly in its 100% PURE content, the consumer has a right to wonder why so many products labeled as “NONI” strangely resemble “fruit cocktails”.

Looking more closely, one realizes that in fact the title “NONI” is also used for products made from a fruit pulp base, abundantly diluted with ordinary water and aromatized to excess, as well as with other products which contain a string of ingredients – with no connection whatsoever to the NONI – such as fructose, glycerin, coloring, sugar and flavors, in such a quantity that the consumer has a right to ask a pertinent question:”WHERE IS THE NONI”?

PURE NONI JUICE OR A “COCKTAIL”? – HOW TO KNOW?

The PURE NONI JUICE, like any other natural herbal remedy, has a particularly strong odor and taste which are rapidly dissipated after its intake, leaving NO unpleasant “after-taste” in the mouth. Its color must be a beautiful light brown with a limpid and transparent appearance in the light, and with the fluid consistency of water. The first contact with the particular taste of PURE NONI juice can often be surprising but it should NOT be “undrinkable”.

On the other hand, a dark or thick NONI juice indicates that it has been mixed with other ingredients, often of no value, or that it has been processed several times. This juice is generally very bitter and “energy flat”. Such juice is generally so unpleasant that it often requires a rinsing of the mouth. It is therefore not surprising that these NONI products are strongly diluted with very sweet flavors as a “cover”, which is in total contradiction with the nature and the integrity of the juice.

AUTHENTIC NONI JUICE – FACT OR FICTION?

Contrary to certain popular theories created solely for their commercial impact, the prolonged fermentation of NONI juice is NOT a traditional process. It is a production stage which has unfortunately developed following the intense popularity of the product, in the last 12 years. The majority of NONI juices are thus prepared specifically to meet huge commercial demand but more importantly because the natives lack the adequate modern equipment that would shorten the length of the fermentation.

Extensive fermentation of the NONI juice has a negative impact on its quality which is severely compromised. Indeed, during that long process, often done at open room temperature, a very intense oxidation of the juice occurs (creating a dark color) and an abundance of bacteria and germs develop. Some of them can be dangerous and present a serious health hazard if they are not completely eliminated. A perfect pasteurization is therefore essential.

PASTEURIZATION – CONSERVATION or COOKING?

The pasteurization of the NONI juice is a crucial stage. All the NONI juices must be pasteurized to stop the fermentation of the juice but principally to eliminate ALL the dangerous bacteria and more importantly to make the juice clean and without any danger to the end consumer.

There are two methods of pasteurization: the method called “cooking” which is used the most and the “flash pasteurization”. The “cooking” method is a long procedure in which the NONI juice is literally “cooked” (at about 95°C) for one hour or more, destroying most of its nutrients in the process (vitamins, minerals and enzymes) and producing a significant oxidation.

Also during the long cooling stage, the juice continues to “cook”. It is thus rendered energetically “flat”, that is to say without significant effectiveness.

On the other hand, the “flash pasteurization” is the most modern method and the most adequate solution. It requires special equipment which heats the juice rapidly to a temperature of 85°C or more, but only for a duration of 3 seconds. This modern method destroys completely all the dangerous or harmful bacteria. However, a fast cooling process follows which ensures the safeguard of the invaluable nutrients in the juice. Its integrity and its effectiveness are therefore respected.

A very good example of this popular wisdom is cod-liver oil which protected a whole generation against health deficiencies due to food insufficiently nutritious and varied during the period after the second war.

HOW TO USE NONI JUICE

To be completely effective, the NONI juice must be preferably taken 100% PURE.

Like most medicinal herbs and drinks derived from plants, NONI juice is naturally bitter. It matters not. Its particular taste and odor can be considerably attenuated at refrigerated temperature which in no way deteriorate from its valuable properties and benefits.

The daily dose recommended by the French FDA (AFSSA) is 30 ml per day.

If occasionally you want to aromatize your NONI juice, we suggest the addition of an unsweetened fruit juice like pineapple which is particularly recommended because it has many qualities similar to those of the NONI juice.
